The Colosseum is located in Rome Italy. Building was started in 70 AD. by Jewish slaves, and it was finished in 80 AD. It is the largest ampitheatre in the world. The Colosseum was estimated to be able to hold 50,000 - 80,000 spectators. It had eighty different entrances. People went to the Colosseum for a day's free entertainment watching animals and gladiators fight to death. It is believed that over time, 500,000 people and one million wild animals would have been killed at the Colosseum.
Many natural disasters have damaged the structure of the Colosseum. The earthquakes of 847 AD. and 1231 AD. have caused the most damage, and this can be seen today.
